this is the last time
if you were broken
i couldn't see
your glass behind the screen
never seemed that hard to me
all those nights we stayed up
wouldn't get caught in between
trees can look through
your panes for free
but in the cold of summer
was it meant to be?
time slips by
forever,
never.
we should have spent more time together
if ocean's foam were all i've known
it wouldn't change a thing
i miss you
The second assignment in my photography class is called "The Edge" and is all about paying attention to the edges of the viewfinder, and composition of what us students are photographing. After screwing two rolls up, I vowed to get some really interesting pictures, more for my sake than the class. Long story short, I biked out to this swimming spot I know of, which is located next to what I like to think of as an industrial wasteland, climbed over some razor-wire, and shot a roll-and-a-half of film. Last night I went into the darkroom to develop and get three good prints, and spent SIX AND A HALF HOURS there! The negatives were beautiful, my contact sheet is full of possibility, Derek came and kicked it for about three of the hours, and I got back home at five this morning. That's officially a personal record in the darkroom, and the results:
Themes I'm playing with are "time", "wasteland" and "emptiness"

After enlarging and developing, I don't LOVE this one^, but at three-thirty in the morning, I was not about to start over with another image!

I love how the other two compositions turned out, the prints look awesome and I'm really excited to make enlargements of the rest of the contact sheets, they all look interesting! As far as "the edge" goes, it could probably be argued that these are not the best images, but for artistic purposes, I'm stoked on how they turned out. I'll be in the darkroom this week making more enlargements, to be up soon.
The next step in my photography class was to develop two rolls of film, and enlarge three good prints. I took in two rolls feeling pretty good about my chances. Well, I screwed up the developing process and had a light leak!! I was pissed, but at least I know I won't make that mistake again. Pretty much every negative was fogged in some way, with almost half of them being 100 percent fogged. I needed to practice using the enlarger to make prints, so I chose two usable negatives and went for it, here's the result.

I really like the first composition, and how the print turned out. As usual, my scanner made the prints look shitty, gaaaah! I'll be developing another roll, possibly two tonight, and I will not screw them up!
