Today marks the end of summer. My roommate Chris told me this afternoon that there was going to be a "super harvest moon" at sunset tonight and apparently this only happens once every 20 years! Naturally we all headed out to watch, I brought my camera anticipating some awesome shots only to be utterly let down! The moon looked at best, ordinary, the sky was hazy as shit, and all the pictures I took pretty much sucked. Granted, I was using a tripod I made by piecing together random parts of my drum kit but still, I'm rather embarrassed at how bad stuff turned out.

I really need a tripod!!!

200 plus shots, 3 worthy of posting.
I can't help but be a little let down at how blurry and shitty the majority of the pictures were, but it was definitely a learning experience, to say the least. Hopefully I'll be able to redeem myself someday with better nighttime photography.
While trying to fall asleep last night I thought the sky out my window looked cool so I took some pictures. I used a stool as a makeshift tripod, but I realized how much I just need to buy a tripod.

In my photography class, we've been talking about film-related stuff, and our first project deals with photograms. I had a lot of fun making and developing mine in the darkroom, and I'm curious to see other ideas that people came up with when we turn them in tomorrow. I regret that my scanner really sucks, and leaves weird lines and shit but regardless, here are my two photograms:

Love of Percussion

Loves of my life
In real life they look great, there are no lines and both are a rich black and look wonderful. This was a pretty fun project, it has me excited for the next steps in the darkroom: contact sheets, followed by real prints!
I walked out of class this afternoon into thunder, lightning, and torrential downpours! I had my jacket but my jeans quickly turned to spandex on the ride home...I love rain so I hopped back on the bike, headed to one-mile for a hypothermic swim, and cruised the wet streets of Chico. Highlights of the ride: hauling ass passing cars while riding through about 2 feet of water, and swerving to avoid a crazy cyclist, causing me to knock into some freshmen while somehow managing to stay on the bike.

Absolutely soaked. So much fun!
About 3 or so weeks ago one of my roomies told me about this thing called "fraterday." Basically the way it works is:
-party and drink Friday night as usual.
-if any non-roommates sleep over Friday night, they CANNOT leave the house and have to participate in Fraterday. no exceptions.
-allow oneself to get up whenever on Saturday morning.
-eating breakfast is optional, BUT, a beer MUST be had along with any food consumed.
-after breakfast, have another beer or a shot if one is feeling so bold.
-next play either snappa or beer pong.
-LAST STEP: at some point take a nap in order to recharge for Saturday night.
-Thus, Saturday has now become Fraterday
A few problems we noticed after two weekends of Fraterday:
-the whole, and I mean whole, Saturday is wasted
-50% of Fraterday participants don't make it to Saturday night
-It costs a lot
-Some participants find they are "in a haze" for the next day or two
Enough talk. We've been doing Fraterday for the past 3 weekends now and it has taken its toll on the best of us. This past weekend I decided to pull out the camera after noticing how Nick and Grant were handling their Fraterdays.

Grant: roughly 4 hours of sleep

Nick: 1 hour of sleep
The weekend is in a few days, and I'm definitely looking forward to Fraterday round 4. This time I'm bringing out the camera for sure.
